Independence day, 2025
(A lecture delivered at the community podium in the Pruska Silvana Housing Complex in Bangalore.)
I am blessed having been born in this exquisitely beautiful land where the mountains proclaim their unbeatable vigour and the seas show their immeasurable depth. Where the immortal Rishis harang the celestial OM. Where the Gange cha Yabunechaiba Godavari Saraswati Narmada Sindhu Kaberi stream the sacred water to enliven the pilgrims throughout the world through the ages.
We, the Indians, have been living at our own free will since 1947, for 78 or nearly 79 years without being suppressed, oppressed and exploited by any foreign power or invaders and above all, which is hilarious to think that we have enjoyed and are enjoying a full flagged Democracy from up to the bottom. What a heavenly our country is with natural, social, political and religious diversities ! Within these seven decades we have won, by our scientific knowledge, the earth -- lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and even piercing into the neighbouring planets and satellites. Our researches in every scientific sphere including medicine and medical science have reached the zenith of prosperity. We have eradicated as well as can combat possible fright of some dreadful epidemic and pestilence. Yes, we are fearlessly dwelling in this blessed Bharata.
Yet, yes yet, there is a serious question that rises above all the wealth and fortune whether we have set our souls free from some heinous iniquities like dogmatism, communalism, sectarianism and communal hatred ? The world, in this hour, is severely suffering from an infernal disharmony mingled with global suspicion which has mounted to warfare between countries causing death and destruction leaving thousands of people along with the innocent and the frail in utter helplessness. What, then, should be or ought to be our ideals and ideologies to herald to the universal humanity ? Should we only preach 'Om Shanti, Om Shanti ?' An embodiment of India's Vedanta Philosophy Swami Vivekananda, once said, "Mind my countrymen, no one is ready to listen to You until and unless you are having an imposing might and invincible authority and power of oneness." Sarvapally Radha krishnan, the great philosopher, explained our aeon-old Hinduism saying that in our holy scripts the wisdom reaches the last phase and has sown the seeds of universal civilization.
Now two questions are to be asked. One, is there an unbreakable unity in India irrespective of cast, creed, community and the rich and the deprived ? And Two, do we, the Indians bear and carry forward the high legacy of our cultural heritage that our grand ancestors left for their predecessors ?
Today is an auspicious day to introspect and to recall the bygone ages when our indomitable heroes would dominate half of the globe with Himalayan hearts and Oceanic wisdom.
